DuPont got its start in 1802 when it began gunpowder manufacture along the banks of the Brandywine River in Delaware. We have been a part of the US Automotive Industry since it started and our involvement in the Collision Repair industry was not far behind. With the introduction of Duco® nitrocellulose Lacquer in 1924, our chemists helped the automobile industry to solve one of its most vexing problems: how to reduce the time it took to paint and cure a paint finish, which at that time took several weeks. The introduction of Duco® on the first paint line at General Motors, coupled with its ability to be sprayed rather than handbrushed, reduced painting time from weeks to a mere six hours. Duco® caused further euphoria because it was available in a palette of colors - until then black had been the only vehicle color available.
